The Blanc de Blancs is the result of a very selective blend of 100% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs and, in particular, the cuvée base 2016 is composed of 10 crus of Chardonnay, the most sought-after grapes in the region. For this cuvée, only the juice from the first press are used and, the wines benefit from a slow and long maturation of 3 to 4 years, far beyond the norms of the region. Tasting Notes: Pale, crystalline gold with the typical glints of the Chardonnay varietal. The aromas of mature Chardonnay can be recognized initially: white peach, candied citrus with notes of lime, honeysuckle and fresh hazelnut, giving way to subtle hints of tangerine and lemon. On the palate, freshness and tautness mark this typically Charles generosity: the attack is pure and forthright, not aggressive but almost unconventionally suave for a Blanc de Blancs, so often en characterized as being sharp rather than creamy. The harmonious finish offers surprising minerality and a slight salinity.

Fruit from the Côte des Blancs weaves its usual magic of minerality and a tense texture. That combines with touch of toastiness, the ripe citrus fruits and the wine's great balance. This is a beautiful Champagne, ready to drink.

Based on the 2012 vintage and disgorged in 2019, Heidsieck's NV Blanc de Blancs continues to show nicely, exhibiting aromas of lemon oil, dried white flowers, green apple and walnuts. It's medium to full-bodied, taut and chiseled. If anything it exhibits a more reserved, austere profile than it did last year. Based on this showing, it's evolving more slowly than I anticipated, and I'd be inclined to counsel readers to wait another year or two before popping corks.

The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs is bright, crisp and easy to like. I would prefer to drink it over the next few years, while the citrus peel and floral notes remain vibrant. The current release is based on 2012 and was Disgorged in 2018.
