The 2020 Xinomavro Hedgehog Vineyard was aged for 12 months in 50% new French barriques (the rest second use). It comes in at 14.03% alcohol. Alpha's Xinomavaro often leans to the silky in texture given the good acidity. The barriques change that a little and add some cream, but this is still classic for the most part, light in color, good in acidity and a little nervy overall. Alpha does tend to tame these, though, especially at this level, so that they are rarely astringent and they are approachable young. This drinks pretty well now, but it does have some chance to improve over the next few years. In the meanwhile, it is a perfect food wine, bright and elegant, plus reasonably priced (especially important if you're in a restaurant).
