This wine comes from the winery's estate vineyard in the Rocks District. Aromas of mesquite smoke, barbecue, smoked meat, black pepper, boysenberry and olive lead to medium-bodied mesquite and smoked meat flavors. A firepit-filled finish follows. Give it time to settle in. Best after 2021.

Good dark red with ruby tones. Smoky and wild on the nose, showing pepper and herb notes from the whole clusters. Plush and silky in the mouth, with dark fruit, pepper and herb flavors lifted by an emerging floral quality. The pH here is close to 4.0, but the stem element energizes the mid-palate. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and very good texture and length. (Incidentally, a barrel sample of the 2018 revealed an even more floral wine in the making.) (from a cobblestone estate vineyard planted in the mid-1990s on the eastern side of The Rocks; fermented with wild yeasts and 50% whole clusters)
