Casanuova delle Cerbaie presents a soft and earthy expression of Sangiovese from one of the appellation's most celebrated single vineyards. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Montosoli opens to dried fruit aromas of prune and plum backed by smoky tobacco, cigar box and Spanish cedar. There are distant autumnal elements of button mushroom, forest floor and roasted chestnut that give the wine a rich and savory personality. Ironically, the mouth shows an unexpected sweet side with hints of candied cherry and cinnamon.

Aromas of crushed berry, fragrant purple flower, dark spice and a balsamic note almost jump out of the glass. The full-bodied structured palate delivers dried black cherry, raspberry compote, licorice and a hint of clove set against a backbone of firm, refined tannins. Drink 2018-2030.
