The merest hint of reduction reminds you of how young this wine actually is. On the palate, a very generous full-fruited picture unfolds: there is very ripe juicy yellow pear and countless juicy citrus notions of clementine, tangerine, satsuma and orange. All of this is cut with precise, tart and ripe lemon freshness. This interplay of tart and ripe creates tension and drive. This is lovely now but is a powerhouse of potent long-lasting fruit. Drink 2017-2040.

Sweetly perfumed with lilac, coolingly minty and redolent of ripe white peach, this reveals to the nose the extra measure of ripeness and sweet generosity that typically comes from these vines trained on metal frames to thrust a V-like pair of leafy arms toward the sun. The cooling, soothing side of this performance is reinforced by a luscious impression of honeydew melon added to the floral, minty and peachy mélange on a glossy, expansive palate. The finish misses interactive mineral participation of the sort that rendered this year's "regular" Heiligenstein so remarkably successful, but there is soothingly fruity and seductively floral persistence. (And this is an assessment from tank, so let's see how the wine shows after some time in bottle. It was only due to ship stateside in early 2017.)
