A well of black cherry, black currant, iron and toasty, vanilla-tinged oak marks this silky red. It firms up nicely, remaining vibrant through the lingering, fruit- and spice-infused aftertaste. Best from 2023 through 2038. 600 cases made, 40 cases imported.

The 2018 Beaune Clos de Roi 1er Cru has a well-defined dark cherry and crushed strawberry bouquet, displaying moderate complexity but bright and vivid. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine acidity and good depth, if just missing a little length at the moment. This has less alcohol than the other cuvées, at 13 degrees, but it does not quite deliver the matière of, say, the 2016.
