A blend of 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, and the rest Syrah, brought up in a mix of old barrels, foudres, and tank, the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Le Calice De Saint Pierre is a classic, traditional effort with lots of pretty red and black fruits, peppery garrigue, a kiss of new leather, and ample spicy aromas and flavors. Playing in the medium-bodied end of the spectrum, it has good mid-palate density, nicely integrated acidity, and the vintage's more forward, charming, elegant style. Enjoy bottles any time over the coming decade.

Black cherries, with hints of leather and dark chocolate, define the nose of the 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape le Calice de Saint Pierre. Mainly tank and foudre-aged Grenache, with small portions of Mourvèdre and Syrah, it's medium to full-bodied, with a smooth, supple feel on the palate and plenty of early-drinking charm.
