A blend of 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre, and the rest Syrah, brought up in a mix of old barrels, foudres, and tank, the 2018 Châteauneuf Du Pape Le Calice De Saint Pierre is a classic, traditional effort with lots of pretty red and black fruits, peppery garrigue, a kiss of new leather, and ample spicy aromas and flavors. Playing in the medium-bodied end of the spectrum, it has good mid-palate density, nicely integrated acidity, and the vintage's more forward, charming, elegant style.
