This is very focused and zesty, pulsating with pure-tasting tangerine, grapefruit and peach flavors supported by vibrant acidity. The finish has intense savory and sea salt notes. Should amplify with time in the cellar. Drink now through 2040. 20 cases imported.

Picked from rather healthy grapes from roughly 45-year-old vines in the Braunfels, the 2014 Wiltingen Riesling Spätlese Vols II displays a deep, intense and slate-like bouquet with ripe fruit aromas, and some spicy and slightly oaky aromas. Full-bodied, round and intense on the palate, this is an elegant but stunningly smooth and rich Riesling that reveals some oak tannins. The sweetness of 45 grams per liter tastes sweeter here than I remember it from the 2013 vintage. Vols II seem to falls out of alignment a bit of in 2014. According to Plunien, this is a commercially "very successful" wine, but I don't find the 2014 very much Plunien-like. This might eventually change over the years.
