While plush blackberry, dried fig and cherry aromas are rich and ripe on the nose, this voluptuous Cab is surprisingly structured and taut on the palate. It's rich and luscious in red fruit yet firmly anchored with cranberry acidity and a fine firm fringe of tannins. It's amply lavished in vanilla, spice and toast, but wears these embellishments well.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for nine months in 85% used French oak and comes in at 13.9% alcohol. Not quite as successful as its Merlot sibling this issue, this lacks the Merlot's relative richness and lushness. That's not unusual on Long Island, one of the few places where Merlot is often the bigger wine. That said, this Cabernet Sauvignon has even more power. On the finish it adds some herbaceousness but that recedes as red berry fruit takes over. The most impressive feature is the structure-the backbone is serious and the tannins are quite aggressive just now. If the Merlot needed a little air, this needs a lot more. It will do better around 2019-2020, when its focus and precision will serve it in good stead. It has a chance to improve in the cellar.

Black cherry and bitter plum fruit is laced with a warm tobacco leaf note, ending with a mix of fruit and smoke through the finish. Drink now. 230 cases made.
