The 2017 Tango Oaks is much drier than 2015 or 2016 and may end up having more aging potential than either. Subtle but complex nose of lime zest, talc, flint and dried herbs. The palate is layer upon layer of complex citrus: tangerine, Meyer lemon, kumquat, grapefruit pith. Balanced with attractive kisses of sea salt throughout. The incredibly long finish reveals notes of beeswax.

This pristine dry Riesling delivers aromas of fresh yellow apple, Meyer lemon and quince wrapped lime and a hint of marshmallow. The medium-bodied palate shows an ethereal lift, offering bright apple and citrus peel flavors pushed along by a twang of wet stone and persistent yet honed acidity. It ends perky and lifted, enlivened by a mouthwatering salt-and-lime combo.

The 2017 Riesling Tango Oaks Vineyard comes in with three grams of residual sugar, 6.9 of total acidity and 12.8% alcohol. When last seen, this was very fine but a little too aggressive. It's settled in nicely with an extra three years or so in bottle (remember that Red Newt tends to release a bit on the late side). Showing complexity now, it adds silky texture and a fine expression of fruit. As it airs and warms, that fruit proves that it can't be taken for granted. It's subtle and it is dry, but wonderfully expressive nonetheless. Of course, it is gloriously fresh. It should hold throughout the decade, maybe more. I won't be surprised if it improves more, but I'd say this is close to peak.

This late release still has some life, with lemon curd, mirabelle plum and honeysuckle backed by a hint of marzipan. Features quinine threads that help the finish linger. Drink now. 420 cases made.
