Tango Oaks is Red Newt's top vineyard and always produces both high-toned fruit and serious minerality; 2015 is no exception. Deep gold. Nose of dried herbs, beeswax, white flowers and flint. Juicy, voluptuous palate of grilled pineapple and Meyer lemon, with notes of spearmint and grilled herbs, and a deep mineral core of stone and flint. Lengthy, smoky finish. Complex and stunning. 6 grams per liter residual sugar.

Perfumed aromas of apple and Meyer lemon meld with a delicate oolong tone on the nose of this dry Riesling. There's a rounded, pithy feel to the palate, where flavors of lemon, apple and apricot are wrapped in a mild grip of white tea tannins. This is a beautifully textured, pristine expression from a relatively young vineyard planted in 2007.

The 2015 Riesling Tango Oaks Vineyard comes in with six grams of sugar and 6.6 total acidity-in theory, not quite as intense as the 2014-plus 12.2% alcohol. Aromatically, this is expressive and impressive, but the palate is a little different. The winery started using cold soak techniques in 2015, but I'm not sure that's the issue. The flavor profile adds grapefruit/sour lemon ball on the finish. It's not necessarily in the most pleasing place right now, but time may improve it. There were 147 cases produced. Red Newt sometimes does release things on the later side-this will be released sometime in 2020.
