The VINCENT GIRARDIN - PULIGNY-MONTRACHET 1ER CRU LES COMBETTES is a distinguished white wine from the revered Burgundy region of France. This wine showcases a refined profile with notes of citrus, stone fruit, and subtle oak, typical of the Puligny-Montrachet terroir, known for its mineral-driven expression and elegance.
This wine pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes including grilled seafood, roasted chicken, and creamy pasta. It also complements rich cheeses like Brie and Camembert, enhancing the dining experience with its vibrant acidity and complexity.
As I wrote shortly after it was bottled, the 2021 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is one of the sites that Germain's team was able to thoroughly protect from the spring frosts (I remember driving past the parcel 10 days later, with it and Domaine Leflaive's vines standing out as the solitary island of green amidst a sea of desiccated buds), and the result is a wine that transcends the vintage. Offering up notes of waxy citrus rind, buttery pastry, iodine and white flowers, it's medium- to full-bodied, satiny and layered, with racy acids, chalky structuring extract and a long, saline finish.
The 2021 Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes 1er Cru is quite introverted on the nose and does not convey much mineralité or terroir expression. The palate is slightly honeyed on the entry with Satsuma and light apricot notes, attractive in a simplistic way. You will drink it and enjoy it but maybe you won't necessarily remember it. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
