VIGNOBLES POITEVIN MEDOC is a Bordeaux red wine from the Médoc region of France, known for its full-bodied flavor profile. This wine typically features a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, presenting notes of dark fruit, cedar, and earthiness, with a structured tannin profile that reflects the terroir of the region.
This Bordeaux red pairs well with a variety of dishes, including grilled meats, hearty stews, and aged cheeses. It complements rich flavors and enhances the dining experience with its robust character.
This is the 2019, not the 2018, but I am including it because it is worth getting hold of while fresh, fragrant and sappy, as this is in abundance. From a family estate up near the widening of the Médoc Estuary, all grapes are hand harvested. Always a reductive opening to this wine, and you get it again here, making a salty, tangy lemon peel and white peach opener alongside touches of cold ash and gunsmoke, just a great glass of white wine that is quite unusual in shape for a Bordeaux white, and always worth looking out for.
The 2019 Poitevin is performing better than it did when I tasted it earlier this year, when I suspect it was still shut down after bottling. Opening in the glass with attractive aromas of orange zest, sweet red berries, petals and spices, it's medium-bodied, lively and elegant, with lovely purity of fruit and nicely integrated structure.
