VENUS LA UNIVERSAL Montsant de la Figuera is a red wine from the Montsant region of Spain, known for its distinct flavor profile featuring ripe dark fruits, earthy undertones, and a hint of spice. This wine showcases the unique terroir of Montsant, with its diverse soil composition and microclimates that contribute to the wine's complexity and character.
This red wine pairs well with a variety of dishes, including grilled meats, rich stews, and aged cheeses. It also complements Mediterranean cuisine, such as pasta with tomato-based sauces and roasted vegetables, making it an excellent choice for diverse culinary experiences.
They only produced 1,000 bottles of this, and as the year was warm and ripe (open), they decided to age the 2015 Venus de La Figuera exclusively in clay amphorae (tinaja). So, the wine has a different profile from the 2016 I tasted next to it, as the 2016 matured in oak foudre. There is a peachy note and some smoky bacon (!?), even if this is only Garnacha (the only grape in the village of La Figuera), and it has a juicy palate, with round but chalky tannins and a dry finish. This comes from very white, limestone-rich soils.
