The TOR Wines Vaca Range Cabernet Sauvignon is augmented with 25% Cabernet Franc, all aged 18 months in French oak and sourced from a north-facing site overlooking Lake Hennessey, with vines planted in Basalt soils on St. George rootstock. Pretty aromatics are driven by lifted herbal tones, with cassis notes and cedarwood spices on the nose. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with a creamy richness of red currants and red-berry fruit, supported by fine-grained tannins, crunchy pomegranate and blood orange acidity and underscored by red floral and earthy, mineral-rich character.
The best value in the Tor lineup—at least for the moment—is the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Vaca Ridge Vineyard, from the east side of Oakville. It includes 15% Cabernet Franc, giving the nose some dried-herb complexity to go with scents of crushed stone and mixed red and black cherries. In the mouth, it's full-bodied and concentrated, supple and rich, with a long, tannic finish.
