Just 13 barrels made from 1.6ha site by Jeff Ames. Big, bold aromas of earth, cumin and fennel, along with red and black fruits leap. Incredibly dense, lush dark berries floods the satiny palate, riding waves of chocolate and toasty oak spice. Though quite delicious now, with plenty of energy and drive, it will take a decade for the character of the site to come through as the robust grippy tannins soften, and the rich oak tannins resolve.
Tor's 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Tierra Roja Vineyard—from an Oakville site on the eastern edge of the valley, just below Dalla Valle—delivers charming notes of cherries, redcurrants and cassis. It's full-bodied, supple, silky and long on the finish, with a touch of mocha, gentle herbal shadings and an overall sense of elegance.
