ust 1.2 hectares of Chardonnay from Beresini Vineyard in the southern reaches of Carneros, this wine is sourced from old, shot-cluster Wente Clone vines originally given to Steve Beresini by Larry Hyde. In the hands of winemaker Jeff Ames, the fruit is native-yeast fermented and barrel-fermented in French oak, with 100% malolactic fermentation, and a more restrained approach to lees stirring than in the past. The 2023 delivers wonderfully pure flavours and a silken, satin-textured mid-palate, lifted by gorgeous aromatics of citrus fruit and candied ginger spice, with blonde barrel toast seamlessly integrated. There is a brightness and lightness here that perfectly balances the wine’s sumptuous richness, carried by excellent length and a saline-edged acid tension that keeps the freshness firmly off the charts.
