Highly fragrant, showcasing high-toned spearmint, redcurrant, rose petal and sandalwood. Medium- to full-bodied, the palate is defined by soaring tannins that grip and build. As the wine unfolds, blackcurrant fruit emerges, intertwined with layers of coriander spice and fresh tobacco. The freshness on the finish is remarkable. An impressively balanced and structured wine. Including a dash of Cabernet Franc, it's a barrel selection from the best blocks of this iconic Oakville site, where they farm approximately 11 blocks. Aged for 20 months in 60%-70% new French oak.
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon retains the vineyard's signature of dusty loam and dried spices overlain on a bed of cherries, black ones in this heat-influenced vintage. It's full-bodied and velvety, perhaps a little bit coarsely textured overall but concentrated, long and flavorful.
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon is the only wine Tor Kenward and Jeff Ames made from this site in 2022. It's one of the best wines from To Kalon I tasted. Succulent dark cherry/plum fruit, spice, new leather, licorice, pomegranate and leather race out of the glass. The 2022 possesses notable textural depth and intensity, both hard to come by in this vintage.
