Only 3,600 bottles of the 2012 Valdarno di Sopra Vigna dell'Impero were made. This pure expression of Sangiovese represents a tremendous effort by Tenuta Sette Ponti and its winemaking team. The wine is utterly delicious with bright berry definition and just the right level of spice and tobacco at the back. The results are streamlined and elegant. Although 2012 was a hot and dry vintage in many parts of Tuscany, this wine shows no sign of that difficulty. I was absolutely smitten by the whole package.
