This wine is dedicated to the Conte Hugues Bernard de la Gatinais. I had the opportunity to meet the Conte during my first-ever big published work on Sicilian wine, in 2002 shortly before his passing. His charming simpatia could light up the entire island. The 2017 Chardonnay Grand Cru shows Sicilian puff pastry and candied orange with creamy ricotta aromas. The wine delvers that perfect sweet and sour intersection between citrus (like the candied orange peel) and creamy (like the ricotta) that the Sicilians excel at.
