Produced with grapes from Perdriel and Altamira, the 2015 Judas Malbec aged in French, American and Hungarian oak barrels for 20 to 24 months, which, in my experience, is what marks the wine the most. This is not as massive as the bottlings I remember from the past, which is a good thing in a cooler and challenging year like 2016. The fruit is ripe, black rather than red, and the spicy oak is a lot less noticeable. There is better balance in the palate, even if the wine remains somewhat XL. This is becoming more transparent with place, grape and vintage. 12,000 bottles were filled in February 2017.
