The Estate Cabernet Sauvignon includes 2% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec, sourced from the winery's Mt. George estate in Coombsville and the Silverado Vineyard in the Stags Leap District. Fermented in stainless steel and aged for 18 months in 40% new French oak, this wine is a straightforward and classic Napa Cabernet. It offers a mix of red-toned and black-toned fruit, sweet cedar spices, and blood orange acidity, supported by very fine-grained tannins that hold the centre with excellent concentration. The medium finish builds with a refreshing undercurrent and a dried herb character, a hallmark of the Coombsville fruit, layering firm, fine tannins with mineral tension.
There are more than 25,000 cases of the excellent 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown, a blend of fruit from the winery's Coombsville and Stags Leap District properties. Aged in 40% new oak (almost entirely French, although there is a small Hungarian component), it marries notes of cedar and dried spices with ripe cherries. It's medium to full-bodied, silky textured and open-knit, not hugely rich or concentrated, just a nice, balanced effort to drink over the next decade.
