A flamboyant nose redolent of rich black cherries in kirsch, complemented by vanilla on the palate. A satisfying palate with caressing tannins. This is a Cab with attitude.
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Selection is a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot. (I don’t believe the word “Diamond” in the title has anything to do with Diamond Mountain.) Supple textured and slightly softer than the Atlas Peak, with less obvious minerality but with more juicy blackcurrant and blackberry fruit, judiciously dosed with some attractive toasty oak, the wine is full-bodied, rather round, opulent, pleasurable and satisfying. The softness of the tannin and lush fruit suggest drinking it now and over the next 10-12 years.
