From the Oggau part of the famous cru that starts (if you will) in Rust, Georg Prieler's 2016 Blaufränkisch Ried Marienthal offers a deep, ripe and generous, mature and fruity nose that indicates a more oxidative style, especially in context with so many reductive reds. Ripe and elegant on the palate, this is a full-bodied Blaufränkisch with hints of raisin, date and fig flavors on the powerful and complex finish. In context with other 2016s, this is pretty mature but also accessible and a great choice for dark meat. Impressive in its power and finesse. Tasted in the Austrian National Library, Vienna, in September 2019.
