PIERRE GIMONNET & FILS CHAMPAGNE BRUT GRAND CRU SPECIAL CLUB OGER showcases a rich flavor profile typical of Grand Cru champagnes, featuring notes of citrus, white flowers, and brioche. Sourced from the prestigious region of Oger in the Champagne area of France, it exemplifies the quality and craftsmanship associated with this premier sparkling wine region.
This champagne pairs well with a variety of dishes, including seafood, shellfish, and poultry. It is particularly suited for richer fare like creamy pasta or aged cheeses, making it a versatile choice for various culinary experiences.
Oger's power and heat comes across even in the tricky 2017 vintage of Didier Gimonnet's Special Club range, highlighting individual terroirs of Côte des Blancs Chardonnay. It's a stony, compact and almost forceful wine, full of cooked apricot and warm lemon flavours yet still delivers on a measured, smooth mousse with a lift of citric energy. The vintage might be a tricky one for true finesse and ageworthiness, yet this cuvée still vividly paints a picture of the village.
Disgorged in February 2024 with a dosage of 4.5 grams per liter, the 2017 Special Club Oger Grand Cru derives from the same four plots as its predecessor (with the majority from Les Terres de Noël and Bruly). It wafts from the glass with a bouquet of peach, quince and brioche, mingling with sweet citrus fruit. Full-bodied and textural, it possesses a generous core of fruit, supported by vibrant acidity and bright chalkiness, complemented by a pillowy mousse. Like its predecessor, it’s one of the more demonstrative, textural wines across the Special Club bottlings, interpreting the southern Côte des Blancs.
