The 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Les Roncières offers up attractive aromas of green apples, white flowers, lime zest and rock salt. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and pure, with good concentration, tangy acids and a bright, delineated finish. Piuze and I were discussing the limitations of the vintage, and he presented this Roncières as an example of "a good 2016"—and I wasn't disappointed. Drink it now or over the next 6 to 8 years.
Les Roncières is a cooler climat within Vaillons than that of Les Minots, and Piuze’s parcel here is planted east-west. The resulting cuvée is quite different, offering up a cooler bouquet of apple, citrus zest and flowers, leading into a sappy, intense wine with lovely cut, a deep core, and a flavourful, saline finish.
