PAOLO SCAVINO BAROLO PRAPO 750ML originates from the prestigious Piedmont region of Italy, renowned for its exceptional Nebbiolo wines. This Barolo showcases a complex flavor profile with notes of dark cherry, rose petals, earthiness, and subtle spice, characteristic of the terroir's rich limestone and clay soils.
Ideal food pairings for this Barolo include hearty dishes such as braised meats, truffle risotto, and aged cheeses. It complements classic Italian cuisine and is well-suited for rich, flavorful meals that enhance its intricate aromas and flavors.
Sunny and well ventilated, Prapo was only added to the range in 2015, and the vines are still young. Relatively cool, it tends not to give wines that are overripe or burly. The nose – for a Serralunga Barolo – is surprisingly open and perfumed, with raspberry compote aromas but no jamminess. Rich and full bodied, it's decidedly concentrated and tannic but with fine underlying acidity. There's a raw energy here, and it needs time to become harmonious. Admirable length.
With the black label, this wine draws its fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, or the village that usually reveals the most structured and muscular expressions of Nebbiolo. Indeed, the Paolo Scavino 2019 Barolo Prapò exhibits a medium dark garnet color. The wine's texture is certainly broader and richer in terms of mouthfeel, and there is some rusty nail or crushed red rock on the close. Tar, cola and licorice emerge with time. Only 4,300 bottles were made.
