The 2022 Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Auslese "Urglück" is based on almost entirely healthy grapes and opens with a highly refined and savory/herbal nose. On the palate, this is a mouth-filling but very fine and delicate, persistently saline Auslese with crystalline acidity and a long, aromatic but also mineral finish. This is a fabulous wine that I tasted a few days after Rolf Merkelbach's death. It's an impressive Riesling that seems to sell in Germany for 24 euros, even though it is sourced from an ancient, dramatically steep vineyard. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in November 2023.
