MATIAS RICCITELLI MALBEC VINA EXTREMA originates from the renowned Los Chacayes region in Argentina, known for its high-altitude vineyards. This Malbec offers a rich profile with deep notes of dark fruits, such as blackberry and plum, complemented by hints of spice and a velvety mouthfeel, characteristic of the terroir.

Ideal food pairings include grilled meats, particularly lamb and beef, as well as hearty dishes like mushroom risotto and aged cheeses. It also complements savory empanadas and dark chocolate desserts, enhancing the overall dining experience.

"The purity of fruit and transparency is mind-blowing here with fresh blackberries, white pepper, salt and chalk. It,s crunchy and flawless in its expression of high-altitude malbec. Medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins and a long and breathtaking finish. Made in concrete and aged 16 months in cask. From a small vineyard at 1,500 meters on the slopes of the Andes. Only 3,000 bottles made. Drink now."

The 2021 Viña Extremas Malbec Los Chacayes derives from the region's highest vineyard, planted on sandy soils atop calcareous stones at 1,500 meters in elevation. As is typical, it was fermented with 30% whole clusters in concrete and aged 16 months in foudre. Opening with an inky yet fresh, distinctively herbal and transparent bouquet, the palate beautifully combines a soft, sumptuous, silky precision with a taut, focused and grounded core. It finishes with a spectacularly long, vivacious finish that is equal parts refined, wild and explosive while remaining effortless and controlled. Next to the equally impressive Viña Extremas San Pablo bottling, I found this to be the more understated and nuanced of the two.
