Complex, yet racy and savory, with fresh currants and currant leaves, as well as red chili pepper, cocoa powder, dark olives and a hint of cigar. This is a full-bodied red with tight, fine-grained tannins and elegant blackberries on the palate. Complete and long with some sweet spices at the end. 84% cabernet sauvignon, 12% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot. Drink or hold.
There is a new red Bordeaux blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Cabernet Franc, the new top-of-the-range 2021 Marqués de Casa Concha Heritage. It was produced with grapes from 52.95 hectares from the ungrafted vines from El Mariscal Vineyard, mostly ungrafted in Puente Alto in Maipo. It fermented in stainless steel with selected yeasts followed by malolactic in tank and 16 months in French oak barrels, 35% of them new. It's ripe at 14.8% alcohol and has good acidity and freshness. It has textbook aromas of a Bordeaux blend, with the freshness of the high percentage of Cabernet Franc and with gentler tannins. It's more elegant than the Master Edition from this same vintage that is also from the Mariscal Vineyard but from grafted vines. This wine is more elegant and fresher, more herbal and a little earthy, drier. 80,400 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2022.
The 2022 Marques de Casa Concha Heritage blends 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc from Puente Alto in the Maipo region. Aged for 16 months in oak barrels, with 35% of them being new, this garnet wine offers aromas of orange peel and hops, complemented by notes of currant and red fruits. Indulgent and broad, with polished tannins, it evolves on the palate with a muscular, well-fitted mouthfeel. This is a well-crafted, long-lasting, savory Maipo Cabernet.
