Complex aromas of dark cherries, blueberries, cassis, tobacco, dried mushrooms and dark spices. Itâs medium-bodied with firm, chalky tannins. Structured and concentrated. Powerful pinot, but rather weightless and cool. Try from 2022.
Medium ruby-purple in color, the 2018 Pinot Noir Annapolis Vineyard comes skipping out of the glass with dramatic notes of candied violets, black raspberries, kirsch and dark chocolate with nuances of lavender, underbrush and truffles. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has a rock-solid frame of ripe, plush tannins and lively acidity supporting the perfumed red berry layers, finishing long with loads of spices coming through. 600 cases were made.
Offers sumptuous strawberry fruit, leather, boysenberry, forest floor and bay leaf aromas. Phinney’s knack for concentration is on full display in this medium- to-full-bodied Pinot which delivers inky black fruit that coasts over the palate, building tannins along with brown spices, cola, leather, pepper, charcuterie, and finishing in a deeply wooded pine forest. Annapolis Ridge Vineyard is a staple in Gallo’s J Vineyards portfolio, so with them as a partner, it’s no surprise Phinney desired to tap this marvellous high-elevation site with its Goldridge, fine sandy loam soils. Entirely destemmed and aged nine and a half months in French oak, 43% new. L'usine is French for 'the factory' and pays homage to ‘all the Andy Warhols of the world,’ in a nod to Phinney’s own obsession with avant-garde art. His first L’usine bottlings (2017 vintage) debuted in 2020.
