Ready for some thinly sliced steak over a bed of radicchio, the Lecci e Brocchi 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Chiorba shows a great level of varietal typicity and purity with dark fruit and plum all backed by dusty mineral tones, crushed rock and flower. The wine sports medium dark concentration and power, but it ultimately lands onto the palate with soft and silky intensity, with that pretty mineral signature remaining intact. This is a graceful wine.
With four hectares (and only two currently in production), this tiny estate is located in the Sesta area of Castelnuovo Berardenga. Here, the galestro rosso - a ferruginous schist - inspired Vasco Lastrucci (aka 'Il Chiorba') to plant grape vines in 1970. The Riserva is dedicated to him. All black cherry, earth and iron, this possesses a pronounced mineral streak. Despite dense fruit and chewy tannins, it avoids heaviness and tangy acidity keeps it refreshing. Begs for a juicy, rare steak.
