A barrel sample of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Block 3 is deep garnet-purple in color and a little mute to start, offering glimpses at warm black cherries, cassis and preserved plums scents with hints of chocolate box, cedar chest, tobacco leaf and iron ore plus a waft of bouquet garni. The palate is full-bodied, concentrated and packed with bold black fruit and fantastic tension, framed by firm, ripe, grainy tannins, finishing long and multilayered.
Much more powerful and complete on the nose, exuding luscious, purple fruits and toasty new oak. The palate follows predictably from these aromas, with a round, voluptuous texture. As with the Estate Cabernet, the finish falls short at this time and will hopefully come out of its shell after a few years in the bottle.
