With fruit from Monforte d'Alba, the Gianni Gagliardo 2016 Barolo Castelletto offers a rich and slightly creamy bouquet. There is dark fruit, tar and licorice, but I also pick up on a touch of sweet spice and white chocolate. Some of these wines from Gianni Gagliardo have a distinctively lactic element that folds into, and ultimately disappears, within the spice of the oak. The tannins are firm and precise. This wine needs another few years of cellar age to find integration. Some 2,700 bottles were made.
