Sweet strawberries and raspberries to the nose. Wild red berries and some fine herbs and flowers. Very juicy and fluent on the palate with plenty of strawberries. I love the wild dried herbs here. Silky, fruit-expressive and long. Lot 109. Delicious now, why hold?
The 2019 Bagual Vineyard Garnacha marked as lot #109 is from the vineyard in the village of Caliboro (spelled Calivoro in the past, as seen on the bottle), where the Perquilauquen River is wide through this section like a narrow lake, and this body of water along with the granitic soils lends the fruit a fresher character than neighboring Melosal or Loncomilla. In 2019, the wine is a little lower in alcohol (13.5%) than the 2018 (14%), and somehow the wine has more freshness but is earthier, less perfumed and a little more tannic. These wines mature in used barrels over two winters, and none show any significant aromas or flavors of oak. 5,239 bottles produced. It was bottled in January 2020.
