Luca D'Attoma's swansong vintage of Poggio Valente at the estate, this 2018 was described by Ettore Rizzi as ‘a wine of transition,’ as he worked with Luca in preparation for taking the reins upon his departure. Ripe, creamy and precise, it showcases hedgerow berries with good freshness and sapidity – by now a hallmark of the wine – with a soft and gentle texture.
The Fattoria le Pupille 2018 Poggio Valente has taken an interesting turn in its evolution with a rather robust or almost stern presentation. There is dark fruit and ripe blackberry, but the effect is more broad than it is deep. This is especially true in terms of the mouthfeel, where the wine feels a little more monotone in this moment in time.
