The 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills, matured for 10 months in neutral oak, is the first appellation-wide Pinot from Donnachadh. Like the Chardonnay, this vintage was sourced entirely from the Donnachadh estate, although that may not be the case in the future. It has a pale ruby color and very pure, fragrant scents of cranberry, raspberry, strawberry, bergamot, tea leaves and herbs. The medium-bodied palate is finely chalky and wonderfully fresh, boasting concentrated red berry flavors, fine citrusy accents and a long, ethereal finish. This really stands out for its detail and expression—it's as if the volume was turned up yet the definition preserved.
Intensely earthy with rich brown spices, truffle notes, and dried rose petals. Gorgeously pure and supple dark berry fruit turns expressively boysenberry scented. Medium-bodied with saline-rich minerality, coiled-up tension, and excellent grip. Long and focused. Swan, Calera, 115, 667, Pommard clones. 400 cases. Co-founders Drew and Laurie Duncan started visiting the Sta. Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County after looking for property in the Anderson Valley and Sonoma Coast. They found what they sought in 2013 and locked into 285 acres along Santa Rosa Road and the Santa Ynez River, east of Sanford & Benedict. They have planted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Gamay. Their winemaker is Ernst Storm.
