The 2022 Pinot Noir Estate leads with a pretty, high-toned nose of black tea, turned earth and dried red cherry aromas. The palate is lacy and vibrant, with a succulent, electric finish that is impressive in its persistence and beautifully framed with saline, chalky energy. This is an impressive showing from an estate that has quickly made a name for itself among several of the region's top winemakers.
The 2023 Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir shows a distinctly herbaceous profile, shaped in part by a shorter time on the skins, which makes the wine approachable with finely grained tannins and vibrant red fruit. Notes of cherry cola, rooibos tea leaves and dried rose petals perfume the wine while juicy red fruit pads the palate. Unfined and unfiltered, it carries a youthful, energetic personality with a bright garnet colour and a slightly irreverent playfulness, showing quiet promise for further development. Lifted aromatics and a lightly structured frame reflect the coastal influence and organic farming of the Donnachadh site.
The 2022 Pinot Noir Estate is intensely floral and savory. Medium in body, with good complexity, the Estate shows the earthier side of Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir. I find the fruit a bit fleeting here.
