A new addition to the portfolio, the David & Nadia 2024 Swartland Chenin Blanc Langland, meaning “long land," comes from a Paardeberg vineyard planted in 1971 on white sandy soils. This winemaking couple acquired the parcel two years ago. It has a mild climate with fewer sunlight hours due to earlier sunsets, medium-sized yields and lighter-toned clusters. Saline notes, lime-driven acidity and palpable tension define the palate, offering greener tones on the yellow-fruit spectrum. Bush vines are farmed with the intent of longevity, and the wine will benefit from time in bottle.
The 2024 Chenin Blanc Langland is a debut release from east-facing vines planted in 1971, aged in neutral oak barrels. It has a lovely bouquet with pear, wet wool and yellow plum scents, hints of jasmine and broom joining the fray with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a resinous texture, touches of white pepper and ginger that dovetail into a harmonious and persistent finish. Excellent.
