This is a vivacious and very attractive, ripe Pauillac with aromas of ripe red plums, cherries and blackberries on offer. The palate has a plush, refined and suave array of very attractive, fine but dense tannins and the rich blackberries, plums and mulberries carry long and super fresh. Try from 2023.
This has tension and layers of flavour, fresh and plush and not overly marked by oak. From the AXA stable with Jean-Rene Matignon as winemaker, the last grapes for Pibran came in on 18th October, about a week later than for Les Griffons and Tourelles. A blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, the dense, rich damson fruits fill out the mid-palate before things get a little tight on the finish as you would expect at this stage. Will spend 18 months in 50% new oak.
