They 2015 Clarisse Vieilles Vignes is the sixth vintage from the 3.5-hectare part of the vineyard and is pure Merlot aged in 50% new oak. It has a ripe and powerful bouquet, a touch of warmth coming through, but not too over-powering. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, powerful and forceful, though kept in check by the acidity; it is a little muscular towards the lightly spiced finish with a long, baking-powder tinged finish. Impressive, although I find as much to enjoy in the regular bottling.
The nose is restrained but classy, with notes of black fruit and liquorice. In the mouth it is chunky and grippy and brimming with plums in a ripe, semi-baked style with ample tannins to back up that fruit.
