There's lots to enjoy here from Philippe Casteja's St-Estèphe property. Light ruby in colour, this Cru Bourgeois has a more restrained extraction than some of its peers, and is from one of the highest points in the appellation. It's fairly smoky on the nose, with very enjoyable juicy red fruits and well-controlled tannins in the mouth, although it's not hugely concentrated. Ready to drink now, and good for another 10-12 years. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
The 2014 Beau Site has an intense dark berry, undergrowth and cedar-tinged bouquet that packs quite a punch. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, plenty of blackberry and bilberry fruit with a tang of spice towards the finish. This Saint Estèphe is worth checking out: a vastly improved Beau-Site compared to older vintages and one endowed with longevity.
