CAVALLOTTO BAROLO SAN GIUSEPPE RISERVA is a distinguished wine hailing from the Barolo region of Piedmont, Italy. This full-bodied red showcases a complex flavor profile featuring notes of cherry, rose, earth, and subtle spice, characteristic of its Nebbiolo grape origins. The wine is aged to perfection, allowing for a refined balance of tannins and acidity.
Ideal food pairings for this Barolo include rich dishes such as braised meats, truffle risotto, and aged cheeses. It complements flavors of game and hearty pasta dishes, enhancing the dining experience.
In the heart of Bricco Boschis, the 2.38ha San Giuseppe vineyard sits on a mix of sandstone and sandy marls. Crafted from the oldest vines, this Riserva simultaneously reaches earthy and mineral depths by way of dark and heady florals. Stunning fragrances of black tea, leather and crushed granite meld with pressed violet. Solid and sturdy, the palate sports a dense charge of blackcurrant and tart rhubarb. Sophisticated tannins are resolutely welded to the fruit. Patience is required for this to unfold.
The organic Cavallotto 2019 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe shows thick texture and density with dark fruits, plum and blackberry layered with extra depth. This wine makes a big impact on the palate and wraps lavishly over the senses. This is one of the most opulent and full-bodied editions I have yet tasted. The fruit is sourced from a 2.38-hectare site with 60-year-old vines with southwest exposures at 310 and 340 meters in elevation. The wine sees 60 months of careful maturation in 20-hectoliter and 100-hectoliter Slavonian botti. In a curious sequence of numbers, production is 8,888 bottles, 666 magnums and 111 three-liter bottle formats.
The 2019 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe is a very special wine. In fact, it is one of the most complete vintages of this wine I can remember tasting because it offers notable finesse to complement the virile power that is such a signature here. Black fruit, gravel, incense, licorice, dried herbs and lavender saturate the palate, framed by incisive yet well-integrated tannins that wrap it all together. The 2021 was impressive from tank. It is all that and more today.
