This winery is owned by Sidney Frank, the “brand builder” and importer responsible for Jagermeister liqueur, Grey Goose Vodka, and Gekkeikan sake as well as plum wine sales in the US. He named the estate after his daughter, Cathy Halstead (who serves as his company’s chairperson), and has entrusted Laurent Montalieu of Northwest Wine Company with the winemaking. There are 600 cases of the outstanding 2004 Pinot Noir Reserve (no “regular” bottling exists in 2004, it’s all “reserve”). Its sumptuous aromatics display loads of black cherries and spices. On the palate, this medium to full-bodied beauty is broad, suave, and silky-textured. Candied blackberries and black cherries are found throughout this long effort’s flavor profile. www.sidneyfrankco.com; tel. (914) 637-5777
