Sangiovese (80%), Cabernet Sauvignon and Canaiolo are the main blending components in the 2010 Carmignano Riserva Trefiano. This is a dark and savory wine that boasts penetrating tones of black currant and prune with evolved aromas of licorice and Indian spice. Grapes are sourced from a five-hectare single vineyard near the Villa di Trefiano, after which the wine is named. The mouthfeel is sophisticated and smokey.

The cherry-scented nose is intense, ripe and elegant. Suave and concentrated, this is still youthful, its rich fruit supported by firm tannins. A slight austerity on the finish gives grip and this has admirable length.
