ANZA DIEGO MAGANA RIOJA is a red wine from the renowned Rioja region of Spain, known for its diverse soils and favorable climate. This wine features a balanced flavor profile with notes of dark fruit, subtle oak, and a hint of spice, reflecting the richness of its origin and the traditional winemaking techniques used.
Ideal food pairings for this wine include grilled meats, such as lamb or steak, as well as rich pasta dishes like Bolognese. It also complements aged cheeses, enhancing the overall dining experience.
A new single-vineyard bottling, the 2022 Dominio de Anza Valdehorta comes from a northwest-facing plot at 640 meters in altitude in the village of Otero, from 85-year-old vines, mostly Mencía with some Doña Blanc and Palomino, on shallow soils. The wine is floral, aromatic, elegant and very fine-boned, with very good tension, fine tannins and purity and symmetry. It's transparent, elegant and balanced, very clean and precise, like laser cut, without any hints of ripeness or excess. It has a moderate 12.4% alcohol. Only 620 bottles produced from one 500-liter barrel. A superb debut. It was bottled in September 2023.
The 2022 Dominio de Anza is Mencía and others from Bierzo, sourced from vineyards planted over 80 years ago. Intensely purple in hue, it offers aromas of pomegranate, violets and red fruits like cherry and sour cherry accented with menthol and hints of animal notes from aging. The palate is smooth, with tension, medium weight and reactive tannins. It's from a warm vintage with good fruit depth, highlighting mint for added complexity. The 2022 is rich and layered.
