You can smell how golden the grapes for this stunning Mosel riesling GG were. I love this very sensuous wine’s floral delicacy and ripe pear fruit. Generous and youthful, with a silky acidity that’s rare in this region, it glides over the medium-bodied palate in spite of the underlying slatey power. From 65- to 70-year-old vines. Drink or hold.
The 2023 Riesling Dhroner Hofberg Grosses Gewächs comes from 65-year-old vines in a fully south-facing slate site. The nose offers a slight lift of crushed tansy aligned with tangerine peel. The slender palate almost crunches with tangerine fill. Fruit and aroma hit stone head-on, resulting in a wine with tension, verve and sharp stone. Svelte, almost naked, yet rich with tangerine aroma. Totally seductive in its taut, stony fashion.
