Alvar de Dios Tio Uco 2016

Tio Uco is 90% Tinta de Toro and 10% Garnacha sourced from three sites in Toro. Hand harvested and destemmed, it is fermented whole berry by indigenous yeasts and aged in neutral French oak barrels.
The second vintage of the entry-level red is the 2016 Tío Uco, produced with purchased grapes from higher-altitude vineyards in the south of the appellation, from the villages of El Pego, Sanzoles and Venialbo where the soils are rich in sand and sandstone and there is a notable absence of clay. It's mostly Tinta de Toro with some 10% Garnacha. The only difference here is the character of the vintage, which as much cooler than 2015. The wine has contained ripeness and is fruit-driven and very tasty, light enough to drink in good quantity. This is a great wine for food, but with enough seriousness and minerality. 20,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2017.
