The 2009 Taurasi Riserva Vigna Cinque Querce is absolutely stunning, having just entered a beautiful early drinking window. It's rich and dark-fruited, with crushed stone, balsam herbs and tobacco forming a darkly alluring bouquet. This is velvety yet structured and teeming with vibrant acidity that sets off the black currants, plums and cherry fruit within to create a deceptively juicy expression. Wow, this just goes on and on, enjoyable today yet structured and balanced enough to last many more years in the cellar.

A well-knit, full-bodied version, offering dense, creamy tannins and a streak of tarry mineral underscoring the expressive flavors of black licorice, baked currant and singed orange peel, with a touch of eucalyptus. Pure and focused, with a lasting finish. Best from 2020 through 2029. 300 cases made.

The 2009 Taurasi Riserva Vigna Cinque Querce is in an evolved state. It is redolent of cherry liqueur, Indian spice, leather and smoked bacon. Candied fruit, tar and campfire ash underline the age and oxidized personality of the wine. This is a near-term option that is drinking nicely at the moment.
