The 2018 Chinon Les Petites Roches is a blend of the fruits from different plots located on the left bank of the Vienne River, all with the same soil profile, which is predominantly clay and moderately chalky. The wine opens spicy and fresh, with floral-scented red fruit aromas. Silky, fresh and very elegant on the palate, with a silky texture and perfectly ripe and finely tannic fruit, this is a concentrated and quite intense medium to full-bodied red with a nice, persistent mineral structure and tart fruit on the finish. Tasted in June 2021.

From a site on gravel soils south of the Vienne River, the 2018 Chinon Les Petites Roches is gentle and round. There's a sense of relaxation to this already approachable wine, with floral overtones, savory spice and tea leaves adding to the red fruit flavors. Fine gravelly tannins coat the mouth, lending satisfying grip on the gently refreshing, medium-length finish. Allow this some air before serving - or give it what it really needs, which is a bit more time.
